What Are The Most Spectacular Las Vegas Casinos? Feb 04

Las Vegas Nevada

The most spectacular casinos, resorts and Vegas shows are situated along the Southern end of Las Vegas Boulevard, also dubbed “the strip.” Each hotel-resort-casino has a different theme and they are all marvelous sights to behold. Inside you’ll find restaurants, retail shops, entertainment venues, spas, wedding chapels, golf courses, casinos, stages and nightclubs. It’s no wonder why Las Vegas Nevada is sometimes called “the city that never sleeps!” With more than 30 casino-resorts along this four-mile stretch and 18 of the world’s 25 largest hotels, totaling more than 67,000 rooms, it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of such a thriving environment.

You’ll notice the palatial Bellagio on Las Vegas Boulevard by its magnificent music-themed fountain “water-ballet” amid the Romanesque 8-acre lake that sits before the behemoth Italian structure. Here you’ll find thirteen restaurants serving California, Japanese and Mediterranean cuisine, as well as Cirque du Soleil performances, the Petrossian Bar and The Bank nightclub. You’ll marvel at The Conservatory, which is arguably one of the most awe-inspiring views on the Las Vegas Strip, with its greenhouse natural lighting, brilliant towering plants, giant butterfly sculptures, vivid flower arrangements, hundred-year-old fountain and blown-glass ceiling sculpture; you’ll feel like you’re in “Honey I Shrunk The Kids.”

The rooms are cosmopolitan and bathed in sage and dark wood with plush furnishings. The health club is newly redone as well, with natural lighting, personal attendants holding iced towels and drinks and excellent plunge pools at the spa. Swimmers list The Bellagio as one of their favorite on the strip with its neoclassical Roman garden and Grand Patio featuring godly pillars and domes. Shopping amenities boast pure swankiness: Tiffany, Armani, Gucci and Prada, to name a few. The casino itself features high-limit slots, semi-secluded roulette, blackjack, craps and baccarat, and a great 7 card stud area, as well as being the host to the Texas hold’ em, World Poker Tour.

The Venetian is the most intricately detailed theme casino in Las Vegas. The 4,027 rooms are spacious and some of the most handsome in town, with sunken living rooms, marble baths, LCD plasma screen televisions, wireless internet, remote-controlled Roman shades, glass showers, deep soaking tubs, crown moldings, thick half-canopies draped over the beds, natural-colored stately furniture, traditional Venetian art and backlit onyx walls. Indoor canals with gondoliers add a romantic touch in this Italian-themed Vegas hotel that rivals Disney theme-park decor. Many guests enjoy the ability to navigate around the resort without being forced through the casino area, as is the case with many of The Venetian’s neighbors. The shopping is particularly impressive here with alligator shoes, $2,000 watches and a recreation of St. Mark’s Square with glass blowers, minstrels and actors. You can also find a branch of the Guggenheim Museum here! While the pools are nothing to write home about, the spa (with nutritionists, physical therapists, massage chairs and acupuncturists) and the gym (with aerobics, yoga, dance, pilates and rock climbing) make up for it.

This is, of course, just a small smattering of the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas. In other cities, you wouldn’t dare walk into a hotel with no intent of renting a room. Yet the hotels in Las Vegas invite you to come in, gamble a little, marvel at the scenery and architecture, catch a show, purchase a spa service or go shopping in the esplanade. More than just a place to rest your head, these behemoths are all-in-one empires that will make you feel like a king or queen while you’re in town.

Even A Cheap Vegas Travel Is Enjoyable Feb 02

the Las Vegas strip

If your idea of a vacation involves sleeping in a hostel room with 20 other people, eating 99 cent buffets, scoring free casino game plays and outdoor people-watching, then Vegas travel is for you! Sure, some couples, high-rollers, celebrities and families come to Las Vegas Nevada without a budget, staying at the most luxurious resorts, eating only the finest cuisine and paying upwards of $300 for front row Vegas shows, but for the easily appeased there is a whole other side that others may miss. After all, everyone feels like a big-shot on the Las Vegas strip, whether they’re paying out like a slot machine or not!

Do you have champagne taste and a beer budget? Don’t worry, even though the celebrity chefs have moved to town, there are still cheap Las Vegas eats to accommodate you on your Vegas travel experience. Oyster Bar at Pennazi (Harrah’s Hotel) will stuff you for $10, Carnegie Deli (Mirage) will give you a pound of corned beef for $11 and Burger Bar will hook you up with some creatively decorated burgers for $12 and but don’t forget to sample one of the 24 beers! If you’re a lover of the all-you-can-eat buffets, then Green Valley and Red Rock are two of the best low-budget options (we’re talking $10 and under here). Main Street Station will also run you under $15 for some of the best buffet food on the Las Vegas Strip. Some sit-down places to check out for under $15 are Binion’s, California, Ellis Island and Four Queens.

The beauty of traveling to Vegas is the amount of free attractions and Las Vegas shows that are available. At The Bellagio Hotel, there is a magnificent indoor conservatory and an impressive outdoor “dancing fountain” show that is choreographed to music every 15-30 minutes. Similarly, the 54-foot-high volcano erupts at The Mirage every night, which is an impressive sight. The Sirens Battle at Treasure Island is good eye-candy for guys and may be cool for little ones, but will undoubtedly disappoint your “Pirates of the Caribbean” loving teen.

You can check out the lion display at MGM Grand and the flamingos at The Flamingo Hotel at no cost. Twelve million lights shine on Fremont Street, with a special display every 30 minutes. Circus Circus has acts every half hour as well, with hire wire walkers, clowns and magicians touring the building. Perhaps the best free Vegas strip show is the Masquerade in the Sky at The Rio, where sky-high dancers and pulsating music meet. Sci-fi loving, techno music fans will love that there’s no cover to get into Mandalay Bay’s Eyecandy Sound Lounge & Bar.

And yes, $2 “Graveyard Shift” meals still thrive in Las Vegas Nevada! Try Arizona Charlie’s Decatur (for $2.22 you get pancakes, eggs, hash browns and French toast), Ellis Island (for $2 you get two eggs, biscuits and gravy and then bacon or sausage), California (for $4 you get chicken strips, a half-pound steak with fries or a potato), Gold Coast (for $2 you get ham and eggs), Orleans (for $2 you get biscuits and gravy or steak and eggs for $4), Sun Coast (for $2 you get pancakes and eggs or steak and eggs for $3) and Tuscany (for $3 you get steak and eggs).
